MILLEVOYE, Charles. OEuvres. - Lot 116
MILLEVOYE, Charles. OEuvres. Paris, Furne, 1827. 4 volumes, in-8, red half-basanes, spines with false nerves decorated with gilt crosses and stamped with cold fleurons, guilloche headpieces, pebbled boards, marbled edges. XV - 352 ; 400 ; 402 ; 358 pages. 1 steel-engraved portrait-frontispiece in black. Spines sunned, small dent in one cut of second volume, scattered foxing. Third edition of the complete works of the poet Charles Millevoye, preceded by a biographical and literary note. Influenced by Rousseau, Chateaubriand and Chénier, Charles Millevoye sang of nature and piety, with a sense of local color, a taste for the rare and the quirky, and a twilight melancholy that made him, in the eyes of many, a precursor of Romanticism. In good condition.
