Some foxing, edges and corners slightly worn. Published in the same year as the first edition, by the same Parisian publisher (Pagnerre), with mention of seventh edition, of Victor Hugo's most famous novel. Written on the rock of exile as a challenge to all human injustices, and as a vibrant cry of hope calling for the rebuilding of society and its institutions. Such was its success that Pagnerre was obliged to produce a second edition as early as 1862, in response to Hugo's urgent request for a low-cost edition as soon as possible to give everyone access to his work. This is probably the second edition, as the printer was not the same as for the original. In good condition.
