GODARD, Jean-Luc. Le Gai savoir. Mot-à-mot d'un film encore - Lot 319
GODARD, Jean-Luc. Le Gai savoir. Mot-à-mot d'un film encore trop réviso. Paris: Union des Écrivains. Union des Écrivains, 1969. In-4, paperback. N.p. about 90 pages, some full-page black illustrations. Cover slightly soiled. Full text of Jean-Luc Godard's film "Le Gai Savoir", accompanied by interesting illustrations. This is a publication of "L'Union des Ecrivains", to which Jean-Luc Godard belonged. Challenging the laws of commercial and traditional cinema, Godard was in the vanguard of the May 68 movement. In the spring of 1967, ORTF asked him to direct a Rousseau-inspired film on education and learning, in reference to Emile (1762). The following spring, the time was ripe for de-Bourgeoisization and deculturation. He borrowed Nietzsche's title to underline the idea of re-enchantment within re-education. Although Le Gai savoir (1969) is part of the filmmaker's "Mao years", the film actually refers to Althusserism, according to which Marxism has yet to be invented. A fine testimony both to Godard's genius and to a social critique in full swing. A collection in good condition of this text that defied censorship.
