LOUYS, Pierre and COUBINE, Othon. Mimes of Lucien's Courtisa - Lot 437
LOUYS, Pierre and COUBINE, Othon. Mimes of Lucien's Courtisanes. Etchings by Coubine. Paris, Éditions Montaigne, 1928. In-4, duck-blue half-chagrin with corners, spine with 4 nerfs framed in cold, gilt fleuron and mosaic in red, gold lettering and "S.I" at foot, cover and spine preserved. 140 pages, 8 original etchings by Othon Coubine printed in bistre off-text. Title printed in black and red. Slight sunning of spine, rubbing with slight loss of leather at spine ends and corners. Very rare spotting, very fresh inside. Partly original edition containing some previously unpublished pages by Louÿs, illustrated with 8 delicate bistre etchings by Czech-born painter Othon Coubine. Limited edition of 375 numbered copies, this one of 350 on Johannot vellum (N°185), the only edition after 25 on Japon. Pierre Louÿs pays a free, stylized tribute to the Greek author Lucien de Samosate and his "Dialogues de courtisanes". A pleasant copy of one of the finest literary erotic pastiches of the 20th century.
