[CURIOSA] BÉCAT - L'ARÉTIN (ARETINO, Pietro, dit) and GAUTIE - Lot 67

[CURIOSA] BÉCAT - L'ARÉTIN (ARETINO, Pietro, dit) and GAUTIER, Théophile. Les Ragionamenti - Fortunio. Excellent reunion of two refined editions illustrated with erotic compositions by Paul-Émile Bécat (1885-1960). L'ARETIN. Les Ragionamenti. Bruxelles, La Nef d'Argent, 1944. 2 volumes in-8, paperback with black illustrated covers. 145 and 211 pages, 32 engravings reproduced in color, including frontispieces, header vignettes and initials. Minor foxing to covers. This major work of erotic literature, a sort of sociological summation of prostitution through cartoonish dialogues, is sublimated by elegant, "naughty" watercolors. Limited edition of 3,000 numbered copies on vellum ragpaper, this one of 2,800 copies including the final state of the engravings (no. 954). Théophile GAUTIER. Fortunio. Paris, Georges Briffaut, 1934. In-8, paperback, filled cover, uncut. 212 pages, 18 color compositions. Spine very slightly torn. Pleasing compositions by Bécat, who skillfully accentuates the aesthetic and sensual dimension of this novel of forbidden love. Harmonious set in good condition.
