[FREDERIC II]. Works of the Sans-Souci philosopher. - Lot 96
[FREDERIC II]. Works of the Sans-Souci philosopher. Good edition of these verses by Frederick II, King of Prussia, in contemporary binding. Potzdam, s.n., 1760. In-12, havana basane, smooth spine decorated in gilt with fir-wood title-piece, fillet framed in cold on the boards, gilt roulette on the edges, pink speckled edges. VIII, 299 pp. Binding somewhat sunned, hinge cracked, small split at spine. Works of the "philosopher of Sans-Souci", in reality King Frederick II of Prussia (1712-1786), containing the Odes, Epistles and Art of War. These verses were corrected by Voltaire for the rare first edition, which was printed in the dungeons of the Sans-Souci palace; the annotated manuscript is still there. A good, fresh copy.
