[LA ROCHE DU MAINE, Jean-Pierre-Louis de]. Paris in miniatur - Lot 102

[LA ROCHE DU MAINE, Jean-Pierre-Louis de]. Paris in miniature, from the drawings of a new argus. Unaddressed edition, on the date of the original, of this satirical description of the mores of Parisian life, published anonymously by the Marquis de Luchet (1739-1792). S.l., s.n., 1784. In-12, navy blue half-chagrin, ribbed spine framed and underlined in cold, gilt fleurons and title to entrenerfs, combed edges. 62 pages, title finial and floral headband. Minor rubbing with a few slight tears, slight wetness on title. This acerbic, satirical description of Parisian mores was published anonymously by the Marquis de Luchet (1739-1792), whose writings often caused a scandal, as did his history of the city of Orléans, whose publication he had to suspend. Here, he takes us on a tour of Parisian life, evoking theaters, prisons, fashions and promenades, from the Tuileries to Luxembourg, via the Palais Royal and the Opéra. A fine copy.
