ALAMANNI, Luigi. Selve. - Lot 121
ALAMANNI, Luigi. Selve. Rare first Venetian edition of this collection of poetry. Venice, Pietro di Nicoli da Sabio, 1533. In-12, ivory vellum, handwritten title on spine. T., 143 numbered ff., (2) table ff. Vellum somewhat yellowed as often, some foxing. First table leaf missing. First edition, fine Venetian printing in italics, containing a collection of poetry dedicated to Francis I, "Favola di Pheton", "Antigone" and various verse works. A somewhat fanciful edition, but with a rigorously complete text. Luigi Alamanni (1495-1556), a Florentine poet, fled Italy during the plot against Julius de Medici, in which he was implicated. He settled in France, frequented the court and became a protégé of François I. An unusual work, charming in this binding.
