BONNARD, Abel. Imposing collection of articles. - Lot 130
BONNARD, Abel. Imposing collection of articles. Exceptional compilation of press articles enriched with handwritten documents, all bound in uniform. S.l, s.é. n.d. 8 in-8 volumes, beige cloth, smooth spines with red ochre leather title-pieces. Bindings signed by Gauché. Approx. 50 pages per volume (unpaginated). Important set of press articles by Abel Bonnard, each laminated and mounted on tabs. Arranged by theme: - Travel notes. With a signed autograph dispatch from Bonnard on the flyleaf: "I am happy that Paul Beauvais has collected these articles, to make a book that is almost as much his as mine". - Voyages. This copy contains an autograph letter from René Benjamin, dated December 4, 1926, expressing delight at reading an article by Bonnard: "Poète! Dear poet! What a delight your article was this morning! Especially for me, who for the moment is sunk in prose and human ignominy", one page in-12; two autograph pages of notes by Bonnard on the city of Avignon; an autograph letter signed by André Chevrillon thanking him for a paper he published in Débats, in which he mentions two of his books, 3p in-12 ; and an autograph letter signed by the publisher Fayard, dated March 14, 1923, in which he expresses his agreement with Abel Bonnard's positions, published in Débats, on universities, little to the glory of La Sorbonne and the Quartier Latin in comparison with Oxford. - Day by day. Peppered with an autograph letter signed by Xavier de Magallon, dated January 29, 1924, reacting to one of Bonnard's articles in Débats and going back over his reading of "Les Familiers", "one of the most streaming books of poetry, not dark but sunny, starry, lunar and drenched with sea foam under the joyful goodness of dolphins", 3p. in-12, and a letter from Claude Goyard, probably addressed to Paul Beauvais, who compiled this collection: the letter is incriminating against Abel Bonnard: "Bonnard's article? It's not written in French. (...) So here's what I think. It's very bad". Abel Bonnard is not good art. (...) [you] deserve better than digging up A.B." one page in-4, dated July 13, 1972. - From day to day. Second volume so titled. With a signed autograph letter from Bonnard: "I am happy that it is my friend, Monsieur Paul Beauvais, who is collecting these articles, which are not even flowers, but petals...". - The passing hour. Interspersed with an autograph phrase by Abel Bonnard: "The pure song of a bird seems to increase the cold". - From yesterday to tomorrow. Prefaced by an interesting copy of a letter from Montherlant to Bonnard, recommending the poems of Mathilde Pomes, regretting that he had not collected his 1935 articles in a book, and telling him that he regularly cut out articles. - Lectures. Filled with an autograph card from Victor Bérard, who is still reading, announcing that he will ask him for an interview; an autograph letter signed by Joseph Récamier, dated December 30, 1927, in which he discusses Maurras's lack of response to a proposal for publications, 3p. in-12; an autograph letter signed by Weygand, dated February 11, 1928, he is struggling to write one of his books; an autograph letter signed by Marcel Boulenger, dated November 10, 1925, thanking him for the review of his book Le Duc de Morny, prince français, in the Débats newspaper, one page in-12; and an autograph letter signed by Camille Mauclair thanking him for an article he published in Débats on his book on Florence, one page in-12. - Chroniques. This copy contains an autograph letter signed by Elémir Bourges, dated May 28, 1922, thanking him for one of his articles, one page in-12; and an autograph letter signed by Gyp, also thanking him for one of his articles, one page in-8. Beautiful set of 8 volumes in sober, signed bindings.
