CHANLAIRE, Pierre-Gilles (attributed to). Government of Poit - Lot 154
CHANLAIRE, Pierre-Gilles (attributed to). Government of Poitou indicating the Departments of the Vendée, the two Sevres and the Vienne, made up of this Province. A map of the Poitou of the Empire in beautiful colors, with the islands of Ré and Oléron. Between 1800 and 1815. Hand-enhanced copperplate engraving (42 x 31 cm) on laid paper (54 x 41 cm). Slight foxing in the margins, old tear restored, very small loss in the upper left corner without affecting the image. Very charming map of the departments forming the former government of Poitou (Deux-Sèvres, Vienne and Vendée), featuring the islands of Oléron (started by the cartouche) and Ré (whole). It probably originates from an Ancien Régime copperplate engraved by Pierre-François Tardieu (1711-1771), which was reworked under the Consulate or Empire to include the départements. The style of this map is quite similar to those of the famous geographer Pierre-Gilles Chanlaire. Nice piece in pleasant condition.
