CHANLAIRE, Pierre-Gilles. Comparative France in Departments - Lot 155
CHANLAIRE, Pierre-Gilles. Comparative France in Departments with. A map of the Départements of Revolutionary France! Paris, Chez les Auteurs, year VI (1797-1798). Hand-enhanced copperplate engraving (43 x 35 cm) on laid paper (53 x 42 cm). Some foxing, minor sales and browning at the top of the center fold. Very interesting (and pretty) map of France, as it was at the end of the Revolution. Probably from early An VI (1797-1798), the Mont-Blanc department encompasses all of Savoy, Tarn-et-Garonne does not exist, and France is larger than the departments on the left bank of the Rhine and in Belgium (Deux Neethes, dept. des Forêts, de la Lys, de Sambre et Meuse...), as well as the "Mont Terrible" department, today between France and Switzerland. A charming historical account.
