COCTEAU, Jean. Appogiatures. - Lot 168
COCTEAU, Jean. Appogiatures. Delicate frontispiece portrait by Modigliani for this pleasing first edition in the first printing. Monaco, Éditions du Rocher, 1953. In-12, paperback, filled cover. 106 pages, 2 full-page drawings reproduced in black, including the frontispiece portrait. Spine slightly soiled with a tiny tear. First edition decorated with a frontispiece portrait of the author by Modigliani and a drawing by Hans Bellmer. One of 100 numbered first copies on pur fil Lafuma (no. 46). An interesting collection of profound reflections, notes, aphorisms and poetic fragments. The title comes from the musical term appoggiatura: an ornamental note that creates tension before resolving itself. Bookplate of photographer Lucien Clergue. A fine copy.
