New edition of this satire of 16th-century society, a veritable indictment of all forms of abuse and deception by the French philologist, Hellenist and humanist Henri Estiene (1528-1598). This new edition, enlarged with remarks by Jacob Le Duchat (1658-1735), is illustrated with 3 fine engravings on the frontispiece of each volume and a repeated title vignette.
According to Brunet, "this edition is preferable to the previous ones because of the remarks it contains. The 21st chapter is in its entirety." [Brunet, II, 1077]
