GUYBERT, Philbert. All the charities [...]. - Lot 208
GUYBERT, Philbert. All the charities [...]. Very complete edition of the famous medical treatise in contemporary binding. Paris, Sébastien Martin, 1670. In-12, brown calf, ribbed spine decorated with gilt irons, sides decorated with gilt roulette, red speckled edges. 4 ff.n.ch., 580 pp. 9 ff. table. Joints bent, binding warped. Some foxing. Collected edition of the works of Philbert Guybert, author of the famous "Médecin Charitable" (1623), which was reprinted dozens of times. In addition to this work, we find a notice on the price of medicines, recipes for jellies and jams, a discourse on the plague, a treatise on bloodletting and a method for embalming corpses. Not all the works in this edition are by Guybert: the treatise on the plague is by Nicolas Ellain, and the treatise on bloodletting is by Antoine Mizault. A handsome manuscript bookplate on the flyleaf, dated 1700, names Pierre Surget, seigneur de la Pierre and master surgeon living in Saint-Germain-de-Coulamer. A good copy in a binding in fine condition.
