LESAGE, Alain-René and GARGANI, Achille (trans.). Il Baccell - Lot 231

LESAGE, Alain-René and GARGANI, Achille (trans.). Il Baccelliere di Salamanca o Memorie e Avventure di don Cherubino della Ronda. Unpublished manuscript of an Italian translation of Le Bachelier de Salamanque, Lesage's last novel. S.l.n.d. [first half of the 19th century]. 1 large volume in-4, green Russian half-leather edged with gilt garland, smooth spine with gilt and cold decoration. 306 pages in brown ink (302 x 210 mm), ruled at margins in graphite and at head in ink. Binding moderately rubbed, boards slightly sunned and circular stain on first board, small tear in inner margin on title page. Unpublished manuscript of this Italian translation by a certain Achille Gargani of Lesage's Bachelier de Salamanque. This translation does not seem to have resulted in a printed edition, since the only one published is that by Lorenzo Tassi, published by Truffi in 1837. [Bibliografia italiana, Anno quarto, n° 2, Febbraio 1838, p.31 for the 1837 translation]. A good, fresh manuscript that deserves to be rediscovered and edited.
