MARCA, Pierre de. History of Bearn. New edition of the major work by seventeenth-century historian Pierre de Marca, in the first printing. Pau, Imprimerie Garet & Haristoy, 1894 and 1912. 2 vol. uncut paperbacks, large in-4, flap covers, first boards decorated with illuminated title in three tones. CCCV - XV - 352 pp. and XXXIV - IV - 744 pp. - 1 f.n.ch. Some foxing on cover, spine of volume I browned, some foxing or browning in text. Deluxe reprint of the major work by Pierre de Marca (1594-1662). Limited edition of 700 copies, this one of 25 numbered on tinted simili-Japan (n°16), first paper. In addition to the reworking of the text, this series is the result of a long-term project by Abbé V. Durabat. Durabat (it took almost twenty years to complete!) contains a biography of Pierre de Marca, a genealogy and bibliography of his works, with previously unpublished documents on his family, as well as a reproduction of the engraved portrait of the author in volume 1 and numerous two-tone initials and headbands echoing those of the original edition (1640). Good first edition copies.
