TOULET, Paul-Jean and MARTIN, Charles. Le Mariage de Don Qui - Lot 287
TOULET, Paul-Jean and MARTIN, Charles. Le Mariage de Don Quichotte. Amusing adventures of Don Quixote illustrated with compositions by Charles Martin. Paris, La Renaissance du Livre, 1922. In-4, half green morocco, gilt headband, covers and spine preserved. 210 pp. frontispiece, 8 color plates and 9 black chapter headings. Spine slightly lightened, covers a little yellowed at margins. First illustrated edition, with frontispiece and eight color plates by Charles Martin. Limited edition of 775 copies, this one of 750 on vellum pur fil Lafuma (no. 374). A curious sequel to Don Quixote, in which the knight is the viceroy of an island and attempts, in vain, to establish tolerance. The story is embellished with fine color medallion compositions reproduced in heliogravure and line headbands by Charles Martin, an important draftsman with Cubist influences. A very good copy, beautifully bound.
