* Émile GALLÉ (1846-1904).
Decorative plate in tin-glazed earthenware with stylized painted enamel decoration in blue monochrome of two crosses of Lorraine and a thistle flower surrounding an emblematic gate by Jean Lamour of the Place Stanislas (1751-1755) with its worked uprights and its wrought-iron and gilded lantern; the entrance arch framing the statue of the Good King and thus putting the Place Stanislas in Nancy in perspective.
Handwritten signature painted on reverse.
Diameter: 26 cm.
(An enamel chip at the edge).
René II d'Anjou, Duke of Lorraine, adopted the thistle emblem for Lorraine and added the motto: "Ne toquès mi, je poins", which became "Qu'y s'y frotte s'y pique".
