Lune rousse.
Rare decorative circular tin-glazed earthenware bowl with ivory-glazed decoration enhanced with gold in the form of a zoomorphic quarter or crescent moon and an engraved fishing scene with a pierced rock by the sea.
Molded enameled signature on reverse, circa 1875.
D. 5.5 × 21 cm.
Gengoult PROUVÉ (Victor PROUVÉ's father) created the optical illusion lunar model.
This model was also used to create blown, molded and wheel-engraved glass ashtrays known as clairs de lune.
The Musée National des Arts et Métiers conserves an identical piece with an interior decoration of Pierrot et Colombine, known as la lune rousse.
The Musée d'Orsay has a study and drawing of this model with a different decoration.
