[BAYONNE] - DUCERE (Edouard). Bayonne under the Empire. Etud - Lot 14
[BAYONNE] - DUCERE (Edouard). Bayonne under the Empire. Etudes napoléoniennes d'après les contemporains et des documents inédits. Bayonne, Lamaignère, 1906 and 1908. Rare bibliophilic curiosity printed on colored paper alternating between orange, blue, yellow, violet, pink and green signatures. 3 volumes in 2 volumes in-4, half tan morocco, spine ribbed with gilt title and tomaison at foot, marbled paper boards, covers and spine preserved. 372 pp; 356 pp, 212 pp. then pp. 225 to 256, pp. 39 to 64, pp. 39 to 48 and pp. 88 to 98 without interruption in content. Some foxing, mainly in the green and violet sections. Set of the first three series of this historical study by Edouard Ducéré (1849-1910), first published in the bulletin of the Société des Sciences et Arts de Bayonne. An important Bayonne scholar, Edouard Ducéré is known for his abundant studies of local history, but also for his literary work. This wide-ranging, richly-documented study of Napoleon's presence in the Bayonne region follows an earlier study of Bayonne under the Ancien Régime. A fantasy of the Bayonne printer Lamaignère, this rare, wide-margined copy printed on quires of eight leaves in alternating colors is not included in the edition of 25 copies. [Beard 324 and 325]. An amusing printing with the appearance of a color chart.
