One of the most beautiful books illustrated by the Orientalist painter Léon Carré. The illustration consists of 20 gouaches reproduced with stencils, off-text and under captioned serpents. Each page is richly framed with colorful friezes and typographic ornaments, inspired by Buddhist paintings in the temples of ancient India.
Limited edition of 910 copies. This is one of 750 on vellum from the Blanchet Frères and Kléber factories (no. 304).
Attached is the original handwritten invoice by bookbinder Charles Lanoë, dated 1923, for the execution of this binding (document tired).
A superb copy.
