CRAFTY. Paris on Horseback. - Lot 161
CRAFTY. Paris on Horseback.
Paris: Plon et Cie, 1883.
In-4, green half-maroquin with corners edged in a double gold fillet, spine with raised bands highlighted by a gold fillet, richly decorated panels, gilt head, untrimmed.
XIII and 404 pages, numerous black-and-white illustrations in the text and as inserts.
Spine slightly faded, minor wear and scuffing on the binding.
First edition of this humorous portrait in text and drawings of “Paris à cheval” by Crafty, the pseudonym of Victor Géruzez (1840–1906), known for his caricatures of sporting life. A leading expert on the equestrian world, he offers an amusing account of the Parisian Belle Époque through the lens of the horse.
A fine copy.
