MARTIN, Henri. A Popular History of France: From the Earlies - Lot 244
MARTIN, Henri. A Popular History of France: From the Earliest Times to the Present Day. Paris, Furne, Jouvet & Co., n.d. [1885] 7 in-8 volumes, each bound in green half-shagreen, with an embossed spine. Approximately 550–600 pages per volume (uncollated), frontispiece portrait of the author in the first volume, numerous woodcuts throughout the text. Normal wear and tear, corners slightly rounded, some foxing, especially on the first and last leaves. A very fine popular edition, printed in two columns, of this history of France that Henri Martin (1810–1883)—first president of the League of Patriots and one of the founders of the Society of Men of Letters—published between 1878 and 1885. A beautiful set.
