ROBINSON, E. Julia and Vincent J. Eastern Carpets. First and Second Series. Two beautiful folio series featuring 24 magnificently reproduced carpets. Of great interest to any lover of textile art. London, Henry Sotheran and Bernard Quaritch, 1882 and 1893. 2 folio volumes, publisher’s bindings, in cream vellum with a red headband for the first volume, in beige percaline for the second; titles running lengthwise on the spine; titles and authors’ names on the front cover. XVII (preface to the first vol.), unpaginated, 12 plates per volume. In English. Bindings slightly soiled, cap bands missing on the first volume, a few small stains on the second, normal wear and tear. Blotting marks opposite the plates. First edition, printed on van Gelder Holland paper, featuring a total of 24 plates of carpets based on Julia Robinson’s watercolors, reproduced by chromolithography. Each plate is accompanied by an explanatory note by Vincent Robinson detailing the provenance and place of manufacture of the depicted carpet (Sarakhs, Shiraz, Baghdad, Mashhad, Kurdistan, Gherous, Afghanistan, Modern Indian Alcaraz, etc.).
