[AUTOMOBILE]. A large illustrated album on the automobile in - Lot 23
[AUTOMOBILE]. A large illustrated album on the automobile industry for the year 1900. An excellent publication, reflecting the rise of the automobile industry during the Belle Époque. Paris, Automobile Club de France - Huget & Minart, n.d. [1900] Folio size, green half-basane and imitation leather Bradel binding with corner pieces, burgundy percaline covers, the front cover adorned with the Automobile Club’s coat of arms and a gilt title. 128 pp., numerous illustrations both in the text and as inserts. The publisher’s cardboard spine has been restored; there are some marks on the percaline. Published under the auspices of the Automobile Club de France, founded in 1895, this album traces the early history of the automobile before presenting the models produced by some forty French and foreign manufacturers. Richly illustrated, it documents, in particular, the De Dion-Bouton, Panhard et Levassor, Peugeot, and Cambier companies, as well as the electric car manufacturers Cleveland and Ouzou. The book also features numerous advertisements, including one for the famous Michelin Bibendum, which had just been created. A good copy despite slightly worn cardboard; the interior is in good condition.
