Regarding his biography of Napoleon, specifically the chapter devoted to Saint Helena. 2 pages, in-12 format (138 x 107 mm), on printed letterhead from “LA Revue universelle,” August 8, 1932. Reading Colonel Richardot’s *Nouveaux mémoires sur l’Armée Française en Égypte et en Syrie* (New Memoirs on the French Army in Egypt and Syria), published in 1848, irritates him. “How little the truth is loved! Richardot has not debunked a single legend. Sainte-Beuve, for his part, did not either [...] Beuve, more succinctly and infinitely better, also says that exile and martyrdom were the last blessing of fortune that Napoleon received.”
