BARBEY D'AUREVILLY, Jules. *Le Chevalier des Touches*. - Lot 30

BARBEY D'AUREVILLY, Jules. *Le Chevalier des Touches*. Paris, Michel Lévy Frères, 1864. In-12, brown half-shagreen, ribbed spine, panels decorated with fleurs-de-lis. 282 pp. Rare foxing spots. First edition, for which no large-format paper was used. Inspired by the life of Jacques Destouches, a hero of the Chouannerie, this novel was first serialized in the newspaper *Le Nain Jaune*. Included is a newspaper clipping about the television adaptation of the novel (Le Figaro, March 24–25, 1979). Handwritten ex-libris by Guy Patard. [Vicaire, I, 303] A fine copy in a good later binding adorned with fleurs-de-lis, a nod to the anti-revolutionary character and to the author, a fervent nostalgic for the monarchy.
