[CYPRUS - MIDDLE EAST]. DELISLE, Guillaume. General Map of Syria, Palestine, and the Island of Cyprus, including parts of Asia Minor, Armenia, Mesopotamia, Arabia, and Egypt, to be used in the history of the Crusades... Central fold, as is often the case; slight browning and a few light foxing spots in the margins; a few rare foxing spots on the map; and the long margins are very slightly frayed. This large map of the Near East comes from the archives of Guillaume Delisle (1675–1726), an astronomer and geographer, and was published here (probably for the first time) by his younger brother, Joseph Nicolas Delisle (1688–1768), who was also an astronomer and geographer. It depicts, with the coastline highlighted in color, the various Christian kingdoms and principalities of the Crusades era, as well as the island of Cyprus and the southern coast of Anatolia. A very beautiful historical map.
