The Château de Pierrefonds is a medieval fortress built at the request of Louis d’Orléans to defend the region during the Hundred Years’ War. In 1617, by order of Louis XIII, the château was largely dismantled. Left in a state of ruin, it was restored beginning in 1857 by the architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc at the request of Napoleon III, who transformed it into a spectacular reinterpretation of the medieval castle.
A fine copy.
