First edition of this literary testament by Mme. Roland, wife of a minister, muse of the Girondins, and victim of the Reign of Terror.
Paris, published by Louvet, n.d. [1795].
4 parts in 1 in-8 volume, orange paper binding, plain spine, handwritten white paper title label, mottled edges.

Minor signs of wear, spine darkened with slight paper cracking, paper missing from the title label, a few foxing spots and a few browned pages, a faint water stain in the lower corner of the last 40 leaves without affecting the text, ink bleed from a note slipped between pages 14 and 15 of the first part.
Posthumous first edition, published by the naturalist Augustin-Guillaume Bosc d’Antic at the request of his friend Mme Roland. The collection consists of memoirs on the writer’s private life, the history of her husband’s two ministerial terms, historical notes, portraits, and anecdotes.
The daughter of a Parisian engraver, Mme Roland, née Jeanne Marie Phlipon (1754–1793), grew up with a love of literature and new ideas. She married the economist Jean-Marie Roland de La Platière (1734–1793), collaborating on his work and supporting the development of his political career. During the Revolution, Mr. Roland was appointed Minister of Justice and later Minister of the Interior. As a salon hostess, Madame Roland became the muse of the Girondins. The Reign of Terror marked the end of the couple’s marriage: she was arrested and guillotined, and he committed suicide shortly thereafter.
