Nicolas Schöffer (1912–1992), a visual artist and theorist of Hungarian origin, settled in Paris in 1936. Beginning in the 1950s, his “luminodynamic” installations—metal constructions with programmed movements and lighting—established him as a pioneer of kinetic and later cybernetic art, with numerous urban planning projects aimed at repositioning humanity within a creative and liberating environment.
