Large quarto, loose-leaf, in an olive half-cloth slipcase with flaps, with a spine and covers of beige grain-textured paper. VIII and 334 pp., 65 woodcuts in the text and as inserts, initial letters. Slight scuffing from handling on the slipcase. A deluxe edition of this unclassifiable novel, featuring the Black Doctor and Stello, his patient, who is prone to melancholy and neurasthenia. It is illustrated with delicate compositions by Georges Scott (1873–1943), all woodcuts by Eugène Dété. With an introduction by Jules Case. A special reprint limited to 500 copies; this is one of 130 numbered copies on China paper. A fine copy awaiting binding.
