[ARISTOTLE]. This book contains Aristotle’s *Problemata*: va - Lot 22
[ARISTOTLE]. This book contains Aristotle’s *Problemata*: various questions to be examined. Discussions that are particularly worthy of consideration, especially in the context of natural philosophy. A rare post-incunabulum Parisian edition of this famous collection of natural curiosities, printed by Nicolas de la Barre. Parisiis [Paris], Sold at the shop of Mr. Nicolas de la Barre, n.d. [circa 1512–1515]. In-16 (140 x 102 mm), Bradel binding in cream vellum imitating reused parchment, smooth spine with title set lengthwise. 48 unnumbered leaves (signatures a-f⁸), one engraved initial. In Latin. Slight water stain on the upper margin, browned edges, rare small foxing spots. A rare Parisian edition in Gothic type of this famous collection of questions and answers attributed to Aristotle. A veritable practical encyclopedia of natural curiosity, this text attempts to explain a multitude of physical, biological, and physiological phenomena through the lens of ancient philosophy (the secrets of the body, the mysteries of sleep, birdsong, and even animal venom). The book was printed by the master printer and bookseller Nicolas de la Barre, who operated on Rue Saint-Jacques; its title page bears the beautiful woodcut typographic mark depicting two angels supporting a heart. Ex-libris vignette by bookseller Pierre Lambert (1899–1969). A fine copy in a modern binding.
