[BIBLIOPHILIA - BONET]. A collection of Paul Bonet’s binding - Lot 41
[BIBLIOPHILIA - BONET]. A collection of Paul Bonet’s bindings for Apollinaire’s *Calligrammes*. Preceded by “Magie des alphabets” by Jean Loize, followed by a catalog. First edition, not for commercial sale, of this rare catalog, printed in a limited run of only 100 copies on Arches vellum. Designed as a workshop prototype with spiral binding, it features 30 photographs of the 30 art book bindings exhibited at the Loize Gallery. No place, published at the expense of a group of enthusiasts [printed by Jacquet for the Galerie Jean Loize], 1949. Large 8vo (200 x 245 mm), loose-leaf, spiral-bound spine, beige cloth-covered cover printed in black and illustrated in burgundy based on a design by Paul Bonet. 75 pages in total (paginated 5–7 and 69–75), 30 black-and-white photographic plates as inserts. Two small tears in the paper on the spine of the binding. A rare catalog of the exhibition held at the Jean Loize bookstore gallery in the spring of 1949, featuring 30 art bookbindings created by Paul Bonet based on Guillaume Apollinaire’s *Calligrammes*. A one-time, non-commercial print run of 100 numbered copies on Arches vellum, signed by Paul Bonet and Jean Loize on the proof sheet. Conceived by Paul Bonet as a workshop prototype, the collection features the industrial “integral” spiral binding patented by Prache. Jean Loize’s introductory text, titled “Magie des alphabets,” invites us to immerse ourselves in the 30 photographs taken by the Chevojon brothers. A physical description of the bindings and a table of contents are provided at the end of the volume. A fresh copy, in fine condition and complete with the invitation card to the exhibition’s opening reception.
