Followed by a account of the lives and deaths of the deportees upon his departure from Guyana, with some observations on this colony and on the Blacks. First edition of the account of the author’s deportation to French Guiana during the French Revolution, followed by his escape from the Cayenne penal colony, containing in the appendix a detailed list of those deported to Cayenne pursuant to the Law of 19 Fructidor, Year V. In-8 (130 x 200 mm), light brown half-basane, smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets and friezes, fawn-colored title label, brown paper covers with speckled decoration, yellow edges. Contemporary binding. 269 pages and 13 unnumbered folios. Binding rubbed; joints split on the front cover and partially on the back; small loss at the bottom; some foxing, more noticeable on the title page and in the margins. First edition of this account of the deportation to French Guiana of Aymé, a deputy to the Council of Five Hundred, during the turbulent period of the French Revolution and the Directory, of his escape after 18 months of hell in the Cayenne penal colony, and of the shipwreck off the Scottish coast of the vessel that was bringing him back to France. It includes, in an appendix, an alphabetical list of those deported to Cayenne pursuant to the Law of 19 Fructidor, Year V, who were embarked on various corvettes (notably La Vaillante, La Charente, and La Décade), listing their ages, their former occupations (deputies, clergymen, monks of various orders, coachmen, engravers, farmers, laborers…), their city of origin, and the date of their death (no more than two years after their arrival) or their escape.
