First edition on Navarre alfa paper, standard print run. Copy enhanced with a long, signed autograph dedication to André Maurois. “Perhaps I was wrong to publish this book in the midst of war! Certainly few people will read it. But those who do read it may become friends of Dostoevsky. And that is a great consolation! When shall I see you again? I think with melancholy of the large, bright living room in Neuilly! Believe in my admiration and my friendship.” The copy contains, at the beginning of the volume, a signed autograph letter from Henri Troyat addressed to Madame André Maurois, thanking her for sending an article on the release of his Dostoevsky in the United States (1 page, in-4, December 8, 1946, with envelope). André Maurois bookplate. In fresh condition.
