[AUTOGRAPH]. GAUDEINET. Signed autograph letter to Messrs. d - Lot 33
[AUTOGRAPH]. GAUDEINET. Signed autograph letter to Messrs. de Rothschild. Autograph signed letter from a certain Gaudeinet to the Rothschild brothers, dated November 23, 1855, in Dijon, regarding the subscription of shares in the Compagnie Générale des Omnibus of London. 1 page, in-4 format (21 x 26.5 cm), handwritten in black ink, Dijon, November 23, 1855, addressed to Messrs. de Rothschild, brothers, bankers, Paris, with a French postage stamp (20 centimes, Napoleon III blue), a postmark indicating the date of departure (Dijon, Nov. 23, 55) and the date of arrival (Paris, Nov. 24, 55, poste restante) on the reverse. Period folds; a margin loss caused by the breaking of the wax seal, which has been reattached on the reverse. Business letter dated November 23, 1855, addressed to the Rothschild brothers by a certain Gaudeinet, concerning the financial launch and subscription of shares in the Compagnie Générale des Omnibus de Londres, founded precisely at the end of 1855 by French entrepreneurs to monopolize and streamline omnibus transportation in London. In excellent condition. Full transcription: “Gentlemen, I hereby confirm my letter of yesterday, and I am writing to ask you to tell me what you know regarding the London Omnibuses. If you consider this venture a good one—I believe the shares are being issued today—please let me know the price of the shares and whether it is still possible to subscribe at cost today. I am quite certain that this venture was not launched in Paris but in London, and that the subscriptions taking place in Paris are being made on behalf of London; if it were otherwise, it would, in my view, detract from the venture, for the English do not need our capital to carry out what they intend to do; in my opinion, the omnibus company must be English. If the subscription has not yet closed, please let me know until when it will remain open. Please accept my sincere regards, V. Gaudeinet"
