DUBOUT, Albert, and PAGNOL, Marcel. *La Gloire de mon père*. A rare copy featuring a double autograph dedication signed by the author to Nela Rubinstein, wife of the virtuoso pianist Arthur Rubinstein, and two handwritten dedications. Monte Carlo, Éditions Pastorelly, 1958. Quarto, loose-leaf, in a red-and-gold-printed slipcase and the publisher’s cream-colored case. 265 pages, 21 color lithographs by Albert Dubout as inserts. The folder has wear on the spine and scuffing on the edges; the slipcase is worn with a small tear on one corner. A charming edition of Marcel Pagnol’s masterpiece, illustrated with the first print run of 21 color lithographs by Albert Dubout. Limited edition of 5,000 copies on high-quality satin-finished vellum, not available for general sale. Superb autograph dedication signed by the author in black ink on the blank endpaper, repeated on the slipcase: “To Mrs. Arthur Rubinstein, a tribute from her neighbor, Marcel Pagnol, May 1959.” Nela Rubinstein (née Aniela Młynarska) was the wife of the legendary virtuoso pianist Arthur Rubinstein. The couple owned a townhouse in Paris, in the immediate vicinity of Marcel Pagnol’s Parisian residence. It also includes two handwritten dedications on the blank endpapers, one repeating the title: “La Gloire de mon Père. (Childhood Memories). I. Marcel Pagnol. 1958"; the other is a tribute reading "In memory of my loved ones," signed with his initials M.P. A beautiful and touching copy.
