[ENGRAVINGS]. DUPLESSIS-BERTEAUX, Jean. A series of 12 etchi - Lot 168
[ENGRAVINGS]. DUPLESSIS-BERTEAUX, Jean. A series of 12 etchings depicting beggars. Complete set of 12 plates on the theme of begging, etched by Jean Duplessis-Bertaux. No place [Paris], no publisher [Joubert], no date [1814]. In-12, brown Bradel-style half-cloth, smooth spine adorned with a duck-blue title label (later binding). 12 etched plates in 18mo format, numbered and mounted on white sheets with tabbed edges. Binding slightly rubbed; foxing along the margins of the plates. Complete set of 12 etched plates by the French artist Jean Duplessis-Bertaux (1747–1819), depicting beggars in various scenes of daily life (playing the violin, carrying a baby in their arms, sweeping the streets, etc.). It is taken from the famous *Recueil de cent sujets de divers genres* (*Collection of One Hundred Subjects of Various Genres*), published in Paris in 1814 by the publisher Joubert, which brings together several picturesque series on everyday life (workers, soldiers, the sounds of Paris, street vendors). The plates are crisp and well-preserved.
