[SCHOOL MANUSCRIPT]. BARRIER, Alexandre. Handwritten lecture - Lot 213
[SCHOOL MANUSCRIPT]. BARRIER, Alexandre. Handwritten lecture notes by a senior student at the Séez seminary. Circa 1850. Approximately 50 handwritten folios in cursive script in black ink; a paper cover with the title handwritten in black. The cover is soiled and torn, with a section missing from the spine. Handwritten notebook by Alexandre Barrier, a former rhetoric student at the Grand Séminaire de Séez in the Orne department. It contains a copy of a lecture on “Notions of Style,” divided into three chapters (the qualities of style, different types of style, and figures of speech). The titles and subtitles are beautifully calligraphied in black India ink. It is followed by handwritten copies of various poetic works (Lacordaire, Lamartine, Xavier de Maistre, Chateaubriand, etc.) as well as excerpts from Greek and Latin texts. It also contains six loose leaves in-8 and in-12 formats, featuring several handwritten poems, a summary sheet on literary genres, and a small original pencil drawing ("The Storm in the Moonlight") signed by A. Fournoud. A handwritten bookplate by A. Barrier on the blank endpaper and the handwritten notation "André Barrier" on the cover. The cover lining bears the following handwritten note: “If this notebook is lost, please return it to 5 rue du Pont-Neuf. A generous reward will be offered.” Clean and fresh interior.
