[MUSSET]. A collection comprising two sets of engravings, based on works by Delort and Monziès, and five portraits in two different states. A rich collection of illustrations centered on Alfred de Musset and his works, comprising a set of 16 engravings after Delort, a set of 42 engravings after Monziès, and 5 portraits in two states on Chinese and Dutch paper, after Monziès, Gavarni, or David. 3 sets in in-4 and in-12 formats, in the publisher’s green half-percale laced folder; cardboard covers bearing the title of the 1884 edition by Lemerre on the front cover and the publisher’s catalog on the back. The slipcase is slightly soiled, and the spine is loose. A fine collection comprising two sets of engravings illustrating various editions of the works of Alfred de Musset and a set of five portraits: - A set of 42 etchings with lettering on Dutch paper, engraved by Louis Monziès after drawings by Henri Pille. Paris, Alphonse Lemerre, 1884. “To illustrate this edition, the Lemerre bookstore produced a letter-sized print run of the 42 etchings by Henri Pille, engraved by Louis Monziès, in the in-4 format. This series was published for 60 francs on Dutch paper” (Vicaire, V, 1292). Pages slightly frayed; a few foxing spots affecting only the first 3 engravings, the rest in the margins. - A series of 5 portraits of Musset in two states on Dutch and Chinese paper, after Monziès, Gavarni, David, Mongin, and Le Rat. Pages slightly frayed, with rare foxing that does not affect the engravings. - A set of 16 etchings (including 1 portrait of Musset and 15 illustrations) executed by Boilvin after Delort. Paris, Chez Jouaust, Librairie des Bibliophiles, 1889. Plates are crisp and well-preserved.
