[REGIONALISM]. CARION, Henri. *L'Arména* by Jérôme Pleumecoq - Lot 264
[REGIONALISM]. CARION, Henri. *L'Arména* by Jérôme Pleumecoq, known as ch'Fissiau, for the Ain Quarainte, along with the “kaimberlottes” letters he wrote over the years. Cambrai, Bureau de l’Émancipation, 1840. Square in-12, full green percaline in Bradel style, smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets and gilt title (contemporary binding) 8 leaves and 140 pages, 1 lithographed frontispiece after Carion, 1 engraved plate as a separate insert Binding rubbed, a few pages yellowed, foxing on the reverse of the plates, frontispiece trimmed slightly short. First edition of this famous satirical almanac, written in the Cambrai dialect by Henri Carion (1812–1892), journalist, pamphleteer, and editor-in-chief of *L’Émancipateur*. The author reprises his character Jérôme Pleumecoq, known as ch’Fissiau (which literally means “Jérôme who plucks the rooster, known as the ferret”), the hero of his previous popular success: L'z'Épistoles Kaimberlottes d'Jérôme Pleumecoq dit ch'Fissiau (1839). The work includes the dialect-written almanac for the year 1840, the famous *Épistoles Kaimberlottes*, a chronicle of political and local events from the year 1839, as well as a study of the artist Louis Holin, illustrated with a beautiful engraved plate. A fine copy, bound in its original binding.
