[FASHION]. Collective. Collection of fashion engravings. - Lot 42
[FASHION]. Collective. Collection of fashion engravings. Published in Paris by Moniteur de la mode; La Mode illustrée; La mode française and Les nouveautés parisiennes between CIRCA 1860 and 1900. In-folio format in sheets. Approx. 200 pages. (unpaginated) Extensive collection of approximately 200 engravings from the first illustrated fashion journals of the 19th century, including Le moniteur de la mode, La mode illustrée, La mode française and Les nouveautés parisiennes. Many of the engravings are taken from Moniteur de la mode, a journal created in 1843, which evoked the elegance of the Second Empire and Third Republic. Its renown is due above all to the quality of the engravings by Jules David, its exclusive designer for fifty years. The collection comprises some 200 color plates in folio format, some on two leaves. Each plate is signed and accompanied by a descriptive caption. Some plates a little browned or worn at the edges, some slightly browned. Very well preserved, however.
